A PR means permanent resident. A permanent resident is a non-Canadian who has been given a permanent residency status by immigrating to Canada. It can either be a student or a foreign worker.

When you have obtained the PR card and want to apply to become a Canadian citizen, you need to prepare for the Canadian citizenship test. You must apply for a citizenship certificate to prove that you are a citizen. Also, you need to find out the requirement for becoming a Canadian citizen.
In the last fix (5) years, you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days, for you to keep your permanent resident status. You cannot lose your permanent residency status when your PR card expires. But you can lose your permanent residents status if a removal order is made against you or if you voluntarily give up your permanent resident status. And you may not be able to enter Canada until you resolve your permanent resident status. You should wait until you have your permanent Residents card before you travel outside of Canada, or you will need to make a travel authorization for you to enter Canada.

If you have a PR card, it can be used to show that you have permanent resident status in Canadian. The PR card is typically issued for five(5) years. Your PR card can be reissued if there’s an omission or mistakes on your PR card.
